The Life and Times of Mary-Jane Liddicoat so far...

Mary-Jane Liddicoat is currently generating new businesses targeting health and wellbeing and personal and professional development. She is also contributing to Australia-Korea trade as
a Director on the Board of the Australian Chamber of Commerce in Korea and to her family by part-time homeschooling her two young children and playing with the 18 month year old.

Until June 2009, she was Counsellor Education (head of the education section) at the Australian Embassy in Seoul, Korea, prior to which she worked for the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) in Canberra, Australia, and as First Secretary Political at the Australian Embassy in Seoul. She has also worked and studied in Tokyo, Damascus, Cairo and Paris.

Mary-Jane majored in Japanese literature and graduated from Sydney University in 1989 and worked as a translator and interpreter in Tokyo until joining DFAT in 1994. She also spent one year at the Nagoya University Linguistics Centre, which inspired her to develop a new teaching methodology for Arabic and write Syrian Colloquial Arabic during an 18 month stay in Damascus in 1997-98. She first studied Arabic at the British Council in Cairo in 1995.
